Night 1 Results
The Young Bucks(with new attire) came out at the start of the show, interrupting Excalibur's little promo where he runs down the card. They tell Rick Knox to just count them out because they're big TNA superstars and they have better stuff to do then wrestle each other. Excalibur said we knew you'd try to do that, so no count outs, no double pins, no double submissions, etc. So bam, double superkick to the Knox, double DQ. As they try to walk out, they get stopped by the Cutlers, which leads to an impromptu match between the two.
Generation Me vs. The Cutler Brothers - Great way to start the show. The Cutlers are waaaaayyyyy the over. The finishing stretch saw the Cutlers attempt their spike piledriver, but Matt Jackson(I think?) turned it over and while he had whichever Cutler in tombstone position, the other Buck hit a superkick while he was being held...but then the Cutlers turned it back over, hit the spike piledriver, and won. After the match both Cutlers were gesturing that they want the belts. Since Generico and London both got eliminated and the Cutlers just got probably their biggest win in PWG, hopefully we'll see that title match on night 2?
Brandon Gatson vs. Ryan Taylor - Decent match even though I'm not really into either guy. Gatson has a very natural charisma or swagger that I never really noticed before. There was a prolonged spot that was like a teased dive/powerbomb off the apron that was right in front of me(front row, my back'll be to the hard cam) that freaked me and everyone out, haha. Gatson hit that moonsault crossbody reversal kind of sloppily, and then Taylor turned it into an armbar. Taylor had a lot more support then I expected him to.
Joey Ryan vs. Chuck Taylor - Match started with a very funny conversation that went something like...
Joey: I heard you were talking poop about me on Twitter.
Chuck: Yeah I used to follow you but you tweet too much. Unfollowed.
Joey: Yeah whatever, I don't want you in my timeline anyway.
Unfortunately it was pretty much seriousness after that. There was a really funny spot where Chucky had Ryan in a crossface chickenwing and said "ask him ref, it's almost 10, I have stuff to do tonight", but it was really quiet and probably won't be audible on DVD. Joey won with a superkick.
Roderick Strong vs. Paul London - Very comedy heavy, not what I expected at all. London came out with some dude wearing an owl mask that was kinda creepy, haha. Before the match London got on the mic and said this since this is a WRESTLING tournament, he dusted off an old outfit. He took off the spacesuit and revealed an amatuer-style singlet...with a VERY overstuffed crotch . The whole match was very lulzy and centered around said crotch. There was a "teabag Roddy" chant followed by Strong yelling NO. Strong won with a gutbuster followed by a sick kick.
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Ricochet - One of the best matches of the night IMO. Pretty much what you'd expect out of these two. Claudio being the powerhouse heel and throwing Richochet around and poop, and Ricochet coming back with all his cool high spots. Ricochet got a pretty lukewarm reaction at first but had fully won the crowd over by the end of the match. Claudio got all the welcome back chants and stuff you'd expect. Claudio won with Swiss Death.
At intermission, I went to buy Chuck Taylor's awesome shirt(Dharma Initiative logo with a grenade in the middle). But he said he only had smalls and youth larges because kids hate him and he's too lazy to buy new shirts.
Also while some kid was getting a pic with Daniels, Claudio(who is just as much of a beast as he seems) snuck up behind and flexed in the background. Also overheard Daniels talking about how Dixie loves getting tweets about him.
Austin Aries vs. Rocky Romero - I saw Austin Aries arrive about an hour before they opened the doors, flamboyant suit and all, he really lives his gimmick, haha. Pretty huge pop for A Double, so he got on the mic and said if you're such a huge fan of mine, do me a favor and shut your mouths. After Rocky did his little dance thing, Austin Aries said he wouldn't let Rocky show him up and did his own dance, which was way better. A guy a couple seats over from me(who was making some pretty gay comments about Aries the whole match) was holding up a dollar bill and trying to get Aries to dance for him. Romero got cheap shotted when he tried to do his dance again. Aries hit a missile dropkick and 2 IEDs, I love how his dropkicks always connect so perfectly. Seemed like the only offense Rocky got in was armbar attempts. Aries won with a kick to the head followed by a brainbuster.
Brandon Bonham vs. Brian Cage - Just like Seven, the worst match of the night for me. It felt like it was just them doing cool MOVEZ. Maybe it's because I've never really gotten into either guy. After a nearfall, Cage yelled out of frustration, and then pretty much the whole crowd yelled right after, mocking him...this happened like 5 more times over the course of this match and the next...ugh. Bonham hit a Canadian Destroyer, and Cage kicked out...just for Bonham to hit another CD and win..was that really necessary?
El Generico vs. Akira Tozawa - Gotta love watching El Generico. From the Ole chants/songs, to his mannerisms, his wrestling style, his character, he's just so entertaining and easy to get behind. They kind of ed up the finish. Tozawa hit a german suplex and I guess Generico forgot to kick out but the ref called it 2 anyway. Tozawa turned it into a modified german, where he had Generico's arms trapped, and got the pin. I'd normally hate Tozawa going over Generico but it allows for a title match tomorrow night.
Chris Hero vs. Christopher Daniels - TNA chant, which Daniels stopped and turned into a PWG chant and said "I don't federations" . Started out as a typical face vs. face match, lots of chain wrestling, hand shakes and such. But Hero put Daniels in a cravate and swung him around and threw him out of the ring(and almost took me out, haha)..Hero opened the ropes for Daniels to get back in, and offered another hand shake, but instead of accepting it, Daniels slapped the poop out of Hero. From there, the match changed completely. Lots of intensity and stiffness, with Daniels doing some pretty great heel work. Hopped to the second rope for the BME and then didn't do it to get maaad heat. For those that complain about Hero throwing too many elbows, there was no more then 2 in this match. Hero ended up winning with the stretch plum. Best match of the night IMO. After the match Daniels cut a promo turning face, saying Hero was the better man and his pick to win BOLA. Hero talked about how he's still pissed about losing in the finals to Low Ki in 08, and how he never got his re-match, but he's gonna win this year to make up for it.
